“I remember the night
And that beautiful Tennessee Waltz!”

That’s one golden voice.

This is a pic I took during a trip to my father’s hometown of Columbus, Mississippi. The Weeping Angel, found at historic Friendship Cemetery, is draped over the grave of the Reverend Robert Teasdale. It’s said that when the Reverend passed away even the angels wept. Or perhaps, as a friend commented while looking through my trip photos, “That poor girl looks worn out.”

Lovely picture, no?

The final take away is that these new rules are a mixed bag. The decisions about how they are implemented will play out in the court system.

“After the vote in favour, a relieved White House hurriedly declared victory—calling the outcome a great plus for innovation, job creation and the American people. It was, of course, no such thing.”

Townes Van Zandt - Pancho & Lefty (Live At The Old Quarter, Houston, Texas, 1977)

Another LP in the post.

Poor Townes. One of our best songwriters who never had two nickels to rub together.

Captured: America in Color from 1939-1943
These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations. The photographs are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color.

 Wicked cool.

Hang on, Julian.

Julian Assange is unhappy about his police files being leaked. I mean, this is too easy, right? JOKES.

AND he refers to himself in the third person. Excerpt below. Read more here.

Speaking from the English mansion where he is confined on bail, the 39-year-old Australian said that the decision to publish incriminating police files about him was “disgusting”. The Guardian had previously used him as its source for hundreds of leaked US embassy cables.

Mr Assange is understood to be particularly angry with a senior reporter at the paper and former friend for “selectively publishing” incriminating sections of the police report, although The Guardian made clear that the WikiLeaks founder was given several days to respond.

Mr Assange claimed the newspaper received leaked documents from Swedish authorities or “other intelligence agencies” intent on jeopardising his defence.

“The leak was clearly designed to undermine my bail application,” he said. “Someone in authority clearly intended to keep Julian in prison.”

#20 - Interpol - Untitled

Perhaps far too young to make statements like this as it’s purely retrospective, but there must not have been a more badass band back in 2002. Posting this has made me relisten to Turn On The Bright Lights and while it’s a record perhaps lacking in inventiveness or originality, it still sounds so completely fresh and vital, I can’t think of an “indie” record of the ilk released this year (or the past few for that matter) with nearly that much quality.

I actually think that going 100% on the music contained within, Antics is barely behind the debut as a record; but as a band it’s so impossible to separate image and aesthetic from the music produced, it worked to their advantage in 2002, but in 2004, and in a far greater extent 2010, the mystique has vanished.

Very hard to choose between this and Not Even Jail and The Specialist.

Beautiful song
